This is especially true when using the “Power” and “Normal” sharpening levels. Auto-sharpening is excellent, on the other hand, and quite fast-rendering. I have no complaints about the quality of the final results. It’s just too sensitive. Another negative thing about the autoharpen is that it straightens out bars and curves (used in data compression) rather than actually correcting sharpness as the RAW files are intended. The only problem I have with the autoharpen is the loss of a bit of quality when sharpening, but I’ve already mentioned this. In many cases, the autoharpen can find an improvement resulting in a mostly serviceable result. That said, sometimes the autoharpen fails the test, and the Lightroom user is left with a severely over-sharpened image. Another thing I not-so-fond of about the RAW conversion process is that attempting to manually select RAW files can leave the user with a broken image (rendered on a black background) or with a message indicating the image could not be found.
