Police announced the arrest on Tuesday, as well as the arrest of two juveniles. Madison County Police Chief James A. Johnston said officers from the Madison County Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division were in the area of McClellan Mill Road in Thomson on Monday, July 9, when they came across two young people smoking cigarettes. A man, later identified as 58-year-old Tyrone Fields of Thomson, was approached by one of the officers and asked him to put away the cigarette. When the officer approached Fields, the younger juvenile quickly began to reach into the pocket of his shorts and the officer noticed what appeared to be a handgun. When the officer asked Fields what the gun was, Fields replied that it was his, that it was not loaded, and that he was in the process of cleaning the weapon. When asked if he had any additional weapons on him, Fields replied that he did not. At that point, the two juveniles fled the scene. When the officer told the other juvenile that he could not run because he had traffic in his direction, the juvenile replied, “Nah, I don’t care.” The officer then asked Fields to put his hands behind his back, and Fields complied, placed the gun in his front pocket, and was then handcuffed. In court on Tuesday, Fields pleaded not guilty to a charge of interference with police. The judge ordered him held on $50,000 bond. Fields was charged with unlawful possession of a
