If you’re ready to start learning about these powerful tools, here are the main steps to follow in both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements to get started.
# Starting up Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop Elements 11
When you start Photoshop, you begin with an open document. The last image you were working on appears on top. If there are layers, you’ll see them displayed in a window below the image. If you have a lot of images open, you may have to scroll through them.
Regardless of the number of images you have open, Photoshop displays a preview of the image you’re editing in the image well on the screen.
## Saving the Image
Before you can do anything else, you need to save the image. You do this by clicking the File menu and choosing Save As. The Save As dialog box opens. Choose the folder where you want to store the image on your hard disk, as described in Chapter 1.
1. **Select Image Size from the File Format submenu**.
Choose JPG (JPEG) from the menu. Photoshop saves your file with the proper settings for you. For example, you can choose to view the image at 72ppi or as a print size for your customers. The settings depend on the type of image you’re editing. For example, you might have to specify the print size if you’re editing a print-ready image. The default image in Elements is the one that was last opened in Photoshop. To open an image in Photoshop Elements, click the New File button (it looks like a paint brush) on the image window toolbar and choose “Open from Photoshop Elements”. Photoshop Elements will open the image in Photoshop.
To save a file, click the Save As button. This opens the Save As dialog. In the top left corner of this dialog, click the New button. The Save As dialog box opens.
In the top left corner of the Save As dialog box, you may see a “Save as type”, “Save in location” and “Window name” option.
3. Determining the size and quality of an image
The first step in editing an image in Photoshop Elements is to determine the correct size. In the bottom left corner, you will see the Dimensions button. Click the appropriate size from the drop-down menu and click OK to confirm.
If you select an inappropriate size or the quality drops below the standard at the top of the screen, the File>Save as Image dialog box will appear. You can then choose to go back to the other dialog box and try a different size.
If you decide not to change the size of the image, go to the next step. If you decide to change the size of the image, go to the next step.

On my two mile walk yesterday I counted one snowman and one snow woman. I saw a deer in the middle of the street (caught my foot in the chain on the driveway); a cat; a kid playing in the park; and a couple of dogs running in the snow.

I have to tell you what I saw on the walk yesterday….Not snow, but sleet. The sleet was big and fat and it came out of nowhere. It came so fast that it was over in a matter of minutes. I just hope that the storm passes quickly. Now I will have a repeat of what happened yesterday. I set off my car alarm by hitting a button.
Tomorrow will be a busy day. I have to go to work early (YUM) and then I have to walk 2 miles to the doctor’s office. It will be colder tonight. The ground has frozen and the wind is blowing across the ground. The wind is sending the snow on to us again. We will all be in for a big surprise in two days. It’s going to be a white Christmas!
For our dinner I will have some kind of turkey lunch meat with leftover dinner rolls.
I can’t decide where to go this weekend.
I wish I could get a picture of the snow, but there’s a 30,000 foot hill here in front of our house. It would make a great backdrop.
I have a funeral to go to for a 2 year old girl who passed away from an infection and a medical mistake. What a sad ending to the holiday weekend. I will be very upset. I’m not sure how I am going to get to the funeral. It will be a busy day.
My daughter got her drivers license last week. We took her out for dinner, and I told her to learn to drive. In the last two days she has driven on
